Happy 43rd National Day, Singapore.
Clement, Jon and I leave for Borders at Wheelocks. Nicholas and Jenn were supposed to meet us there. So we eat at Pepper Lunch to buy time. The food there was awwwesommmee *groan* (Jon, Clement and Nick should get what i'm doing. ;D) Haha. We filled up this survey under Alvin's name and all his particulars. Heh. We head to Borders. 15% off all items except on newspapers and magazines or items already on other promotions. We walked around for a really long time. Jenn and Nick were still not there. I bought something and we decided to wait at Burger King.
Jon needed eye drops and this led to his "Harvey Dent impression" where he spreads his eye lids apart exposing more of his eye. It's fugly shit. Yet, he still complains about
dry eyes. Retard eh? Jenn and Nick arrive at 4pm. Late.We go to Queensway to get Jon's tennis racket (which he brings around the entire day) restringed. On the way there, Naimah calls and we decide to catch ourselves some NDP fireworks. At Queensway, we split up to look for our seperate stuff. Jon for strings with Clem, Nick for iron-ons for his beaney(?) with Jenn and I and we were keeping an eye out for jerseys. Cos we make a good team. ;) No avail. For all of us.
We go to City Hall to meet Naimah. The train stopped a few times in the tunnels, which freaked us out abit. We even saw policemen at City Hall. But we realised it was caused by the crowd going for NDP. Heh.
Naimah dressed in green and white. Very patriotic Naimah. Haha. We go to Marina Bay, only to be told to return to where we once came as there was no view for fireworks there. So we go back to City Hall and decide if we can see anything from Library @ Esplanade. But then, the underpassage to Esplanade was closed up. So we redirect ourselves to Marina Square. I Love BJ! (and its not Beijing! Haha!) This really cracked us up! Something from New Urban Male.
At Marina Square, we walk around the shopping centre to find a good view of the fireworks. We walked around for so long, we actually gave up and wanted to go eat and miss out on the action. But when we realised that there were people on the roof, seen through the windows in the ceiling in the main hall, we rushed up the escalator. The fireworks had not started yet, thankfully. We kept ourselves busy by taking group shots.
Then, the sky sparks went off. It was really dazzling. Jenn took a video of the whole thing. There was a moment where Naimah and I went "WHOOOOO!!!" at the same time and I jinxed her. Haha. We went down in search of food. Thinking that he fireworks were done. But we heard more distant explosions when we were ALREADY in the shopping centre. Bugger.
There were pillars that were like metallic shiney and we took pictures of our distorted reflections. Jon did more of his "Harvey Dent impressions" and Jenn flashed him in the eye. He winced in pain. Muahahaha! The guys took a picture outside this lingerie shop. Haha. TRIUMPH! Heehee.
We decided on going to get to City Hall to go somewhere else to eat since all the fast and relatively slow food chains were packed with people. Somehow, we got ourselves stuck in this snail paced crowd. Sardine-ning through the two opposite row of shops. It was insane! We formed a human chain, Jon snaking a path through. People who just watched the NDP and shoppers were going in opposite directions. Shoulders rubbing off shoulders. It was frustrating.
We DID manage to get out of the impossible mob and paced to City Hall station after, what seemed like, 40 minutes. Escalators were not functioning due to safety hazards. Crowd subsided, built up again, subsided, built up again. We sang our way through the crowd to hopefully makethe whole thing pass faster. The ticketing gates at City Hall station was blocked by pushy people! ARGH! After quick thinking, we moved up the escalator out of the stuffy station to the cool air-conditioned Raffles City Shopping Centre. We sat ourselves in a corner at the side of the escalator floor. We were exhausted. Jon took a video and said that we were Tsunami survivors stuck in the shopping centre. Haha. We grew delirious and started singing again. Sigh.
We got to our feat at walked around shortly for food, only to be stopped by another decision to go back to City Hall station, thinking that the crowd may have subsided. But no. The same ridiculous mob was still struggling through the ticketing gates. Again led by more quick thinking, we get ourselves to Funan IT mall and caught bus 197 after missing 196 seconds earlier.
The bus took us all straight to Jurong East where we ate Macs for a late dinner. Jon stayed awake throughout the bus ride, he claims that he couldn't sleep. I think different. ;) Some of us hadn't eaten for the entire day. Naimah left while Nick, Jon and I were at the toilet. Apparently she called Jon. I wanted to walk her to the train station. When we got back to Macs, Naimah called Jenn about some guy stalking her. WTH!? Concerned. But she said she lost him in the train and managed to get back home safely. Relieved.
So we ate our fill, I could hardly stuff myself anymore. And so then after, we parted ways. And I arrived home around 12am. Tired, sore but with a sense of achievement and brainloads of unforgettable seconds.
