YVIP'08
It's a 4D3N experience of a lifetime!
Apart from the awesome fun-filled games, groovy dances, catchy songs, you learn essential skills and attain a love for volunteering.
My TF (Pei Jin) and group mates (Joanne, Hui Xin and Lynette) are great! Go Group 13! Go Majulah!
Highlights of the events:
Disability Lunch- You're paired up with someone. That person is blindfolded and your hands are tied up. Since you can't use your hands you have to carefully instruct your partner, who is blind, to feed you and themselves. You switch disabilities later.
Disability Challenge- Each group mate adopts a different disability or two. I was blind. Urgh. With the help of dropping 50 cent coins, cotton wool, tape and plastic sunglasses. Hui Xin had to sit in the wheel chair throughout the journey. Joanne was suppose to pretend to be mute and deaf. Now all we have to do now is start from TKSS (Eunos) and trek around Orchard completing tasks. Its quite scary being blind, having to depend on my team mates to be my eyes. At Taka, i was sitting down with Hui Xin. Cos you can't see much, you tend to close your eyes. And then i just snoozed off. Haha. Another group's blind guy, Suraine(?), caught me sleeping cos my head was hanging over and i was nodding. Heh. We managed to complete all the compulsory task. Even the one where i have to ask for assistance to find 'Uni Tofu Dessert' from the public by myself. I was saying "Excuse me. Hello is anyone there?" To mid air, hoping someone nice wont ignore me and give me a hand. Haha. I managed to get help from this nice lady, not sure how she looks, and the closest thing we found was this beancurd tofu dessert thing. PJ said it counts cos he just wanted all of us to have the experience. But i knocked into things a couple of times. Wheelchairs, side of walls and even the elevator door! Apparently the door hadn't open yet and i just walked into it. Ouch.

But overall, the camp was worth attending. No regrets, much was learnt. And i'm looking forward to the 2 week Attachment at BWell Elderly Daycare Centre. I'm even considering adding nursing into my list of future proffesions after the Elderly Workshop during the camp.
